SKI TOUR IN THE TURKISH CAUCASUS - KACKAR MOUNTAINS & MT. KAZBEK (5.033 M) IN GEORGIA
Mountains as far as your eyes can see! The Kackar mountain range is located in the north-east corner of the country and is considered a tropical forest of Turkey in the summer. In winter, it is a ski tour paradise with steep, partly wooded cliffs. Above the tree border, wide alpine pastures offer great downhill runs. The highest summit of the Kackar range reaches almost 4,000 m. It is still an area where also wildlife is to be found. It is not uncommon if you see a bear or whole herds of cubs during the ski tour.
Far away from civilization, in a small village, and enjoy the secluded mountains of the Kackar Mountains.
Afterward, we will cross the border to Georgia in the Kasbegi area. Here we climb the highest mountain of Georgia, Mt. Kazbek with an altitude of 5033 m.
CHARACTERISTICS OF THE TOUR
For these tours, good body condition and good skiing skills are required. The ascents and descents are long. On average, 1,400 - 1,600 heights are to be handled, so the slopes are accordingly long. The maximum steepness of the slopes is around 30 °. The selected mountains are ideal skiing places - for enthusiastic ski mountaineers great, exotic destinations that require no special ski skills apart from the necessary physical condition.
Mt. Ararat and Mt. Kazbek mountains with their altitudes of 5,165 and 5,033 m should not be underestimated, both of which require good acclimatization. The overnight stays on Ararat take place in the tent camp and on Kazbek in the simple mountain hut. The conditions on both mountains can be extremely cold and stormy.
