ARARAT - ASCEND OF THE BIBLICAL MOUNTAIN

MT. ARARAT - ASCEND OF THE BIBLICAL MOUNTAIN

"And Noah's Ark rested upon the mountains of Ararat."

With this statement, the Bible made the beautifully shaped volcanic cone famous worldwide. High above the eastern Anatolian steppe, its crown of ice and snow hovers in the blue sky.

Regardless of the biblical significance, the volcanic cone, which last erupted in 1840, exudes an immense fascination. Here, in Eastern Anatolia, the foothills of the Taurus Mountains merge with the eastern foothills of the Pontus Mountains in a vast high plateau. From this 1700-meter high plateau, Mount Ararat rises mightily and free-standing over 3000 meters. Even in midsummer, its summit is ice-covered, while the flanks of the volcano remain barren. Clouds below the summit make the colossal peak appear as if it is floating.

Discover the magic of this impressive natural wonder and let yourself be enchanted by the untouched beauty of Mount Ararat.

After a good night's sleep, we ascend again to the high camp. Those who are not yet exhausted from the 4-hour climb can go a bit further towards the summit. Early dinner, as the summit ascent begins at night.

At about 2-3 am, it’s time to get up and have breakfast. A steep climb of about 5 hours brings us to the summit. At an altitude of around 4900 m, the glacier begins, and from then on, we continue with crampons. After 5 to 6 hours of ascent, we made it! We stand on the highest peak in Turkey, Mount Noah. In good weather and visibility, the view extends to Iran and the Caucasus; Eastern Anatolia lies at our feet! Then the descent begins, first to the high camp (2 to 3 hours). After a break and a snack, we break camp and descend to the base camp. The walking time from the summit to the base camp is about 5-6 hours. Overnight stay at the base camp.
